Fiber Bragg Gratings

Embedded or Surface Mounted,

No Compromises.

Embedded Sensor solutions

Com&Sens has over 10 years of track record in embedding fiber optic sensing technologies in filament winding, AFP/ATL, prepreg, pultrusion, infusion composites processing technologies.

We engineer sensor architectures and embedding strategies, relative to the process specifications (thermosets or thermoplastics), and the monitoring objectives.

Embedding solutions

In process sensor embedding methodologies

Co Winding

Fiber optic sensors are integrated directly into the winding process, enabling precise placement within the laminate without altering the production cycle. Ideal for Type IV COPVs and other wound structures.

Automated placement

Sensors are laid in-line with automated fiber placement (AFP), automated tape laying (ATL), or during pultrusion — allowing sensorized parts to be produced with full automation and repeatability.

Manual integration methodologies

For low-rate or custom production, sensors can be manually embedded between plies. This allows advanced monitoring in structural parts built via infusion or prepreg layups.

Connection solutions.

COPV

Designed for filament-wound tanks, this method integrates the fiber optic connector into the boss part — offering a robust, protected, and repeatable solution for long-term structural monitoring.

CS Click - Surface connectors

A user-friendly surface-mounted connector system, ideal for test setups or semi-permanent applications. Fast, safe, and adaptable to flat or curved surfaces.

Edge & Surface Connection

Our patended 'Edge & Surface’ connection technologies are pushing the boundaries of industrialization and scalability of ‘smart’ composites. The Edge connection technology allows reconnecting an embedded fiber post machining of the composites part.

 Surface Mounting solutions

When embedding sensors isn’t possible, Com&Sens offers reliable and versatile surface-mounted solutions to enable structural monitoring on existing assets, without compromising performance, safety, or usability.

Com&Sens’ unique composites reinforced sensing rod solution (FSR) has proven robustness and reliability in very harsh environments for sensing existing structures.

All solutions are compatible with our fast-curing UV adhesive, which delivers strong, precise bonds in seconds — far faster and more versatile than traditional epoxies.

CS FSR Fiber Sensing Rod

A robust and proven solution for mounting fiber optic sensors externally on composite, steel, or concrete structures. CS FSR provides accurate strain measurements and easy installation on both flat and curved surfaces, even in harsh environments.

CS SENSOR PATCH

Our latest development in surface sensing: a 3D-printed, application-specific jig that ensures optimal sensor placement, alignment, and UV bonding.

The CS Sensor Patch makes sensor installation versatile, repeatable, and dummy-proof — perfect for in-field or OEM retrofitting.

CS EXTSENS

Based on extensometer principles, CS EXT offers high-sensitivity strain measurement and can be deployed in virtually any configuration or environment.

Its compact form factor makes it ideal for complex geometries, retrofitting, or where standard surface bonding is not feasible.
